Maneskin Concerts

Måneskin was first formed after Damiano David, Victoria De Angelis, and Thomas Raggi met each other as students during their high school days in Rome. They then met Ethan Torchio from Frosinone who had seen a Facebook ad requesting a drummer to complete the lineup. And though this started the band, they weren’t officially formed until 2016 when the band chose the name Måneskin, which was required to register for Pulse, a local music contest.

According to reports, the band came up with the name after De Angelis tossed out some Danish words until they chose Måneskin (meaning moonlight). The contest was also a turning point for the band as they had to write their own music. Måneskin performed at the Felt music club & school in front of around 200-300 people and won first prize.

The band went on to perform as buskers in the streets of the Colli Portuensi district of Rome, as well as in the historical centre of Rome. They then had their first live concert outside their native city in FAenza at the 2016 Meeting of Independent Record Labels with about 30 people in attendance. The band then took a trip to Denmark to perform live shows and further hone their talents and to play for several hours a day.

The Time For Global Recognition

From late 2019 through spring 2020, the band lived in London. They spent a lot of time working on their style and creating new material. This led to their seventh single “Vent’anni”  in October 2020 as well as their victory at the Sanremo Music Festival 2021 with the song “Zitti e buoni”. This stood out since rock was seen as an atypical choice at the festival. The band then announced a new album coming out that helped place them on the map. It also led to them becoming the Italian representatives at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, with “Zitti e buoni”.

The band quickly became the favorite to win across multiple betting odds, even surpassing France, Switzerland, and Malta. Then they proved the predictions correct taking the win with a total of 524 points, which gave Italy its third Eurovision triumph since 1990 and 1964 respectively. Måneskin also became the first band and “Zitti e buoni” the first rock song to win the contest since Lordi with “Hard Rock Hallelujah” for Finland in 2006.
